Peternity Founder Colleen Mihelich and her team are always on the lookout for unique, handcrafted pieces of art to help her customers express their love, joy and memories of beloved pets who have passed on. Recently, Mihelich discovered a new artist named Alyson Whitney, an American artisan trained in Florence, Italy and who is nationally recognized for her bright colored, whimsical fine hand-painted pottery. Whitney’s vibrant pet urns have been added to the website which features custom pet products including pet memorial stones and grave markers, garden statue and headstone pet memorials, and custom engraved glasswork.
Designed and made in The Woodlands, Texas, Whitney’s signature look is hand-painted with colors applied more than three times, resulting in strong, opaque colors. Each piece can be personalized with your pet‘s name and urns can also be customized to match the color or the breed of a specific cat or dog. Designs are bisque fired in a kiln and glazed in a handmade, lead-free glaze. They are then fired a second time to 1946 degrees. No two pieces are exactly alike due to variations in the colors and designs from piece to piece, some of which are available in two to three sizes.
Priced from $120 to $350, the high end of the range of Whitney’s work is for individual, customized pet urns where the artwork is made to a client’s specifications. Most urns are available in two to three different sizes, and color and artwork changes are nominally additional to the standard prices.
