-- Collect your pet's favorite toys, collars and photos of your pet and place them in a specially selected box so that you and family members can find them easily.

-- Make a donation in your pet's name to a local animal shelter or other charity.

To help a friend who has lost a pet:

-- Encourage them to talk about their feelings. Many people feel silly talking about the devastation they feel from  the loss of their pet, so they will welcome your reassurance and your ear. 

-- Give them a card or a thoughtful gift to show your sympathy and to remind them of the joy that their pet provided.

-- Help them to create a ceremony or ritual to commemorate their pet's life. When grieving, it's difficult to handle all of the tiny details that such a project can entail.
